#93 Yoon Wah/ Sun Yoon Wah Snow Beer

One last post before we bid goodbye to Ipoh for what it has to offer along our wonderful foodie journey.

Here's another Ipoh specialty: Snow Beer, or frozen beer.

Snow Beer is available at both Yoon Wah and Sun Yoon Wah Cafe...

So, what's the science behind such booze that's best served chilled?

Served in frozen beer mugs, the beer foam forms icy precipitation while the beer itself remains extremely chilled, thus giving the drink a superior level of 'coolness'.

#92 Gunung Rapat Biscuit Hunt

Finally, the end is here! Not exactly the end of everything, just the end of my Ipoh food entries. So, what's better to end the gastronomical odyssey with an epic post about biscuit hunting around Gunung Rapat!

Gunung Rapat is well-known for its signature pastry - 'Heong Peah', which is translated as 'Fragrant Biscuit'. Prepared the traditional way, the confectionery consists of sweet, warm maltose enclosed by a crispy outer layer.

Our first stop was Seng Kee, a brand heavily recommended by locals, probably due to its quality without commercialisation. As you can see from above, flattened pieces of dough were inserted into a hollow baking 'well'. The doughs were adhered to the side before eventually turning golden brown, thus forming the flaky texture of the skin.

Crispy, fragrant and great TV snack...

Most of the establishments here were marked by their door numbers. Our subsequent visits were 362 Keong Kee Heong Peah....

And 302 Chang Weng Heong Peah...

#91 Keng Nam

Enter Keng Nam coffeeshop, one of the establishments that serve Ipoh curry noodles....

The curry here bears a fiery top red layer. Try it with Ipoh 'sha-horfun' (flat rice noodles) for that appropriate taste that's distinctively local...

The main highlights here seem to be the oh so awesome glutinous rice. With two types to choose from, the kaya glutinous rice is a straight-out champion (we ordered quite a number of those...) that'll have you craving for more, while the curry ones are no less delicious too.

Honourable mentions: Ipoh white coffee (they're practically everywhere!), chee cheong fun, and dan-ji (half-boiled eggs served on toasts).

#89 Kum Kee (Pasir Pinji Big Small Feet)

On an underwhelming note, we went to Kum Kee to sample their well-known dish - big small feet.

Yes, 'big small feet' is the direct translation of its Cantonese name. To the uninitiated, it's a dish consisting braised pork knuckle and chicken feet. Why underwhelming? They ran out of pork knuckles, what a bummer.

Nevertheless, not a fan of chicken feet myself, I must say that the soy sauce is pretty awesome stuff..

Oh, we had fried stuffs, juicy bean sprouts and ultra-smooth Ipoh flat rice noodle as accompaniment.

#88 Woong Kee Soya Bean Milk

Since it was festival period, we managed to evade a certain overcrowded (and overrated) soya shop at Ipoh centre to get our soya bean drink and bean curd fix.

The green

We adore the black soya bean milk, which as you can see from the photo above, it's green colour...

One word for the bean curd: smooth...

#87 Rainbow Seafood Restaurant (Menglembu, Ipoh)

On the first night of our Ipoh excursion, we gathered with our dear relatives for a round-table feast. Silly me for not remembering the dishes ordered (was busy gobbling here and there), so I just let the pictures do the talking. The dinner was awesome....
